Description
2023 Blockchain Case Study Winner. The Digital Product Passport EU initiative will require many consumer products to feature a unique and accessible Digital Identify to help consumers make greener choices. Digimarc and IOTA collaborated on a project to create a Digital Product Passport blueprint in support of some of the EU initiative requirements including the use of accessible product identifiers, open standards, decentralized architectures, and accessibility. This Digital Product Passport blueprint was then tested in a pilot project to provide electric vehicle batteries with Digital Product Passports. The EU announced in April 2022 its intention to make DPP mandatory for selected products categories as soon as 2024. This initiative is part of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation made on 3/30/22. It aims to establish a digital platform to enhance the sustainability of products placed on the European market including products produced by brands from non-EU countries.
